Grey signifies the Granite city of Aberdeen, Pale Blue represents Inverness, the capital of the highlands and “the gate to the water.” Deep red brown conveys Fort William, where the service used to be known as “the deer stalker.” Rich purple symbolises royalty and its connection to Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh. The bright vibrant green expresses Glasgow, known as “the dear green place.” The deep cobalt blue pays homage to the liveries of historic sleeper trains. Red and white point to the colours of the St George’s cross, the flag of England which represents London.
